First Human Settlements Roundtable

On December 11, 2024, the inaugural Human Settlements Roundtable brought together participants from governments, multilateral and bilateral agencies, NGOs and private entities. This event marked a significant step toward realizing the ambitious goals of the Human Settlements Multistakeholder Pledge, launched at the 2023 Global Refugee Forum.

Highlights:

  • Insightful contributions from government representatives of South Sudan, Mauritania, Mozambique, Ethiopia, and Switzerland.

  • Dynamic discussions on pledge implementation progress, challenges, and future strategies.

  • Engagement with new partners interested in joining the initiative, fostering collaboration to ensure impactful outcomes.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to our speakers, including Mr. Sajjad Malik (UNHCR), Mr. Daniel Tenkir (Ethiopia), and Mr. Filiep Decorte (UN-Habitat), for their inspiring opening remarks. Special thanks to stakeholder representatives who shared updates and roadmaps, including Mr. Nicolas Brass (Global Compact on Refugees Coordination Team) and delegates from participating nations and agencies.

What’s Next?

The roundtable reaffirmed the urgency of turning pledges into action. The next steps focus on expanding the network of partners, encouraging more countries and organizations to pledge, and aligning efforts toward the 2025 High-Level Officials Meeting (HLOM) and 2027 GRF.

Together, we are building a future where displaced communities can thrive in integrated, sustainable settlements.
