Updated: Jun 23, 2022

The World Urban Forum, that will take place 26–30 June 2022, Katowice, Poland, is set to have a dedicated urban crises track, with more than 40 events focused on urban recovery, the role of local authorities in urban response, profiling tools, early response and recovery in Ukraine, voices from civil society and local actors, and more.

Urban Crises Track

The Urban Crises track will entail a flagship Extraordinary Dialogue on Urban Crises Response and a Special Session on Urban Recovery Frameworks following the Opening Ceremony on Monday 27 June, as well as 30 networking events, whereby several are organised by the Alliance and its member. The Urban Crises Track programme can be downloaded here.

Join us at WUF!

The Global Alliance for Urban Crises will host two networking events at WUF.

The first networking event NE 63 Urban Profiling and Recovery in Ukraine Across the Hum-Dev-Peace Nexus will take place Tuesday 28 June 14:30-16:00. The event will review how the humanitarian response and initial recovery efforts are being tailored to the urban context in Ukraine and discuss the relevance of tools and approaches developed through the Alliance as well as other recent experiences/tools developed by partners. JIPS is focal point for the event, which will be moderated by the Chair of the Steering Committee, Filiep Decorte (UN-Habitat), with representatives from Ukraine, as well as World Bank, JIPS, IMPACT Initiatives, Urban-A, and local government networks in the panel.

The second networking event NE 184 – Enhancing the role of local governments across the humanitarian, development, peace and security nexus will take place Thursday 30 June 14:00-15:30. As one of the last sessions of WUF, this is an opportunity to take stock of the discussions and the insights from the week and situating this within the systemic review of the Alliance and the Strategic Goal of the Alliance Strategy (local governments are empowered to prepare, prevent, and respond to humanitarian crises). The discussion will be split in two parts, one focusing on local governments role on the ground and the other focusing on how to work with different actors and across scales. IFRC and CUDRR+R are focal points for the event, which will be moderated by Synne Bergby (Urban-A) with representatives from Kenya Red Cross, VNG, IMPACT Initiatives, Commonwealth Association of Architects, and local government in the panel.

Global Alliance for Urban Crises Social Gathering

If you are in Katowice, come join us for a social gathering Monday 27 June at 7pm. This will be an opportunity to have catch up over food and drinks after a full day packed with urban crises events. The gathering will take place at Biala Malpa, and is an open event for both Alliance members and others who would like to join. Hope to see you there!
